Storm-watching (from a distance!) is my therapy…
There is just something about storms that makes me feel closer to God. They are humbling because they are so powerful. Yet, my God is bigger than the storm. At times, storms cause me to fear, but in those times, I feel myself drawing nearer to him for shelter, because he can command the winds.
I believe there are many times in our lives when we find ourselves in a storm…but, I truly believe that God is IN the storm, and we just need to turn to him. In the Bible, God even presents himself in storms to his people.
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm.
He said: “What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed, or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?…
Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain, and a path for the thunderstorm, to water a land where no one lives, an uninhabited desert, to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass?
…Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens when the dust becomes hard and the clods of earth stick together?…
…Everything under heaven belongs to me.”
Job 38:1, 24-27, 35, 37-38; 41:11
Are you in a storm? If so, have you stopped to listen to what he may be trying to say? Storms can be terrible…but the life they bring forth afterward is always stronger than before.
