I had lunch on my patio today. As I sat down at the table, I instantly felt relaxed. I basked in the warmth of the sunshine, which was offset by a cool breeze gently caressing my face. A cardinal sang out as he hopped into the bird feeder, while a hummingbird darted back and forth across the oak tree, looking for the perfect limb on which to perch. Nearby, a tiny yellow butterfly fluttered by. It seemed as if all of nature was enjoying this beautiful day as much as I was.
I commented to my husband how glad I was that we had found our little patio table, so we could take in days like this. Yes, it was a good investment. But I also thought about all the other beautiful days that had come and gone since our original purchase. How many had I missed? I could have enjoyed so many more, if I had just walked outside and sat down.
So it is with God’s presence. How beautiful and wonderful it is, and yet how often do we go there? How many opportunities do we miss with our Savior, who can bring us such joy and peace? He stands at the door of our hearts, knocking.
Lord, may I have ears to hear your invitation to spend time in the sunshine of your Spirit today.
“Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me.” –Revelation 3:20
