Can you imagine what it must be like to attend a royal dinner party? If it were me, I would feel pretty intimidated. Questions would swirl through my mind like a whirlwind. Am I dressed appropriately? How do I address the king? Do I bow or curtsey? Am I using the right fork? And what in the world should I talk about?
Imagine, then, if your invitation said, “Come as you are.”
If you are out in the garden, hot and sweaty, covered in dirt, come anyway. If you are up to your elbows in dish water, at the kitchen sink, just leave the dirty dishes. On your way to an important business meeting? It can wait. Trying to kick that addiction, wondering how you ended up on the wrong side of life? Yes, you are welcome, too. Come.
The truth is, you have already been invited to dinner with a king. His name is Jesus.
Many of those He originally invited are too busy, too caught up in their own lives to attend. So he has invited more. Unlike other royal gatherings, this invitation isn’t just for the higher ups. It is for everyone–from the richest to the poorest, from the important to the downtrodden. All who will come are welcome.
The invitation is yours. Will you join Him?
