I love movies. I love the classics. If you want to watch Gone with the Wind, The Sound of Music, Shenandoah, or Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I’m your girl. Call me, and I’ll watch with you. My all-time favorite movie, The Man from Snowy River, probably wouldn’t even make most people’s “ever watched” list, but I’ve watched it some 50+ times over the past 30+ years. And then there are the others…the silly, nonsensical movies that just make me laugh. The ones you know will make you smile and put you in a better mood. For our family, one of those is movies is Short Circuit. In essence, it’s about a robot that is struck by lightning and comes to life. He is called Number 5. As he processes his interaction with humans, he is led to exclaim, “Number 5 is alive!”
As I sat thinking about what to share with you this month, I realized this is Number 5. This marks the fifth January I have written a column for Postcards. We are now 5 years old and very much alive thanks to you, our readers and advertisers!
Five years has taught us a lot. It’s taught us about schedules, deadlines, and commitments. It’s taught us about how God will provide what we need when we need it. Above all, it’s taught us, yet again, just how special our little piece of Texas is. And over and over again, we realize what makes it special are the people and organizations that call it home. That’s what we attempt to do in our pages – make you aware and SHARE. We love it when you share, too–your ideas, your photos, your vacations, your grandchildren, your children, and your pets. We love them all!
As we begin our sixth year of serving you, I want to encourage you to think about your part in our special corner of the world. I challenge you to find a local organization and get involved. Don’t be afraid! Commit to a certain number of hours per month you can give, and do it. Whether it’s one or ten, it will make a difference–in someone else’s life as well as yours.
May God bless you this year. We look forward to seeing you around!
Happy New Year ~ Karen
