After a several year sabbatical, I took a renewed look recently at my family history and filling in the blanks on the family tree. I was quickly amazed at how technology has advanced our ability to find out more about our ancestors. With just a few clicks, I was able to learn of a 9x great-grandfather who was a provincial governor in Maryland in the mid-1600s!
There is certainly value in recognizing family connections and taking time to learn, reflect, and appreciate those relationships. One doesn’t have to look far or have state-of-the-art technology to embrace the ultimate family relationship…it is here now…just as it was in the 1600s and from the very beginning. God, the Father, created a father/child relationship with us and sealed it with blood, making us heirs to the throne and children of the King of Kings!
Like our earthly ancestors, there are many things we don’t understand—blanks we can’t fill in yet to understand it all…but we know what we know and we know WHO we know. And that’s a family history that’s a blessing beyond measure.
I remind you, my dear children: Your sins are forgiven in Jesus’ name. You veterans were in on the ground floor and know the One who started all this; you newcomers have won a big victory over the Evil One. And a second reminder, dear children: You know the Father from personal experience. I John 2:12-13 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore do not fear. You are more valuable than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31
