Welcome to Normangee State Bank, located at 202 Main Street in Normangee, Texas, home of the Normangee Panthers. Enter the front doors of this beautiful new facility, and you are immediately welcomed into the spacious and well-appointed foyer by the friendly and competent staff who are ready to serve your every banking need.
Chartered in October 1912 as the First National Bank of Normangee, this solid banking institution survived the Great Depression and has continued its strategic growth throughout the years when other banks across the nation have closed their doors. The bank later purchased the local First State Bank and was eventually renamed Normangee State Bank when it received its state charter in 1962. Royce Shaw joined the bank as President in 1963 as a 22-year-old, and in 1967, he, along with local businessmen Percy Westmoreland, Mac L. Bennett Jr., and Doyle Reed, purchased the bank. It has been locally owned since that time. Assets at the time of purchase were $1,381,074, and at the present time stand at approximately $147,000,000. Royce, along with Dr. W.A. Bilsing, purchased controlling interest in the bank in 1974, with Joel Shaw and Jake Shaw joining the staff in 1984. Joel became CEO and President in 2001. Jack Hunter joined the institution in September 2003 and became President in January 2009 after a 27-year career as a County Extension Agent with the A&M University System. Along with these individuals, the bank staff is comprised of nineteen trained and highly competent employees, including several of the Shaw family.
“We are locally owned and community oriented,” Joel states. “We own the bank, and all decisions are made here. Also, we offer all the banking products and services you would find at any metropolitan bank with at least one additional benefit. We are opened for a full day of service on Saturdays and welcome business as usual on that day.” According to Joel, the bank serves a number of Houston and Dallas customers who come to purchase land and enjoy the relaxing country living this area offers. In addition to land loans, NSB is highly active in the home loan industry. “We know peoples’ needs and wants, and when they come into our bank, we treat them as we would like to be treated. I follow the Golden Rule in both my business and personal life and treat people with respect regardless of their financial situation. This attitude is consistent across our banking staff. Each customer is warmly welcomed, and their banking needs efficiently met by our knowledgeable and capable staff.”
