April 2026 marks a milestone I could never have imagined back in the mid-1980s.
After graduating from Sam Houston State and building a successful corporate career, my wife and I began to feel called in a different direction. We realized that many hardworking people simply hadn’t been given the tools or education to make confident financial decisions. We believed we could help change that.
So in the spring of 1986, we took a leap of faith.
We bought land in Huntsville, built our home, and I began the long journey of education, licensing, and building relationships. From the very beginning, this was never just about business. It was about people.
Huntsville welcomed us, and we were determined to give back. Through our church, the Walker County Fair Association, Sam Houston athletics, and eventually serving on the Huntsville ISD Board of Trustees, this community became part of our family.
As the years passed, our commitment to excellence grew as well. In 1998, I earned my Certified Financial Planner™ designation, strengthening the foundation of education and ethics we had built our practice upon.
In 1993, we chose a name that reflected both our reach and our philosophy. We had clients not only in Walker County, but across Texas, the nation, and even around the world. More importantly, we believed in standing beside the people we served. That’s how Global Financial Partners was born.
In 2003, we built our office at Cornerstone Professional Building, where we continue to welcome clients and friends today.
One of the greatest blessings of these 40 years has been watching the next generation step into leadership. Bryan Masten, CFP® joined our firm in 2014 and became a partner in 2020. My son Riley joined in 2016 and became a partner in 2023 after earning his CFP® designation. Watching their dedication and commitment has been one of my proudest accomplishments.
Strong relationships have always been at the heart of what we do, and our team plays an essential role in that mission. Paula, our Networking Communications Specialist, has been helping build and maintain those connections since joining our firm in 2009. Ally Benitez, our Client Services Coordinator who joined our team in 2018, ensures that each client experience reflects the care and attention they deserve.
Over the years, we’ve shared countless conversations, milestones, and yes, even pecan pies — delivered locally and shipped across the country each Christmas as a small way to say thank you.
There is a simple principle that has guided us from the beginning:
If you help enough other people achieve their goals, everything else will take care of itself.
Looking back, I am filled with gratitude.
For the trust. For the friendships. For the opportunity to serve.
As we celebrate 40 years, our commitment remains the same as it was on day one — to walk alongside the people of this community and help them build confident financial futures.
