Climatec opened in October 2018 and was anticipated with much curiosity among local citizens who wondered what this new three-story building would be. According to Christy, guesses ranged from a doctor’s office to an antique car storage facility, to a depository for stem cells. “You never know what people are going to come up with! Such imaginative minds,” she laughingly adds. Wade and Christy grew up in Huntsville and graduated from both Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State University. “It is important to us that we pay back the community we love,” she remarks. They love their hometown and particularly, as SHSU graduates, understand the collegiate needs of a place to store furniture for the summer months. Climatec meets this need in a way that offers convenience and peace of mind.
Their mission statement is: Creating value in the ability to assist our customers in protecting what they wish to preserve. “We are not a franchise, but are a single-family-owned business and have set high standards by which to be known,” she remarks. “In an effort to meet these goals, our employees tour the facility several times daily to monitor cleanliness and to ensure all units are securely locked. If we find your unit unlocked, we will immediately notify you by text message. Your valuables are our concern.”
Units can be reserved online, over the phone, or in-person. Information regarding all unit sizes and monthly fees is available online. Climatec does not require long-term contracts, but instead administers accounts on a month-by-month basis. These are prorated with the rental date, so if the account is set up mid-month, then a prorated rental fee is charged for the first month, then afterwards month-to-month. Fees also include a one-time administration fee, as well as a small security deposit which is returned upon move-out if the unit is left clean and undamaged.
Another nice benefit of renting at Climatec is the use of an online calculator which allows a customer to see how the storage space is utilized as items are added to the size of unit they are considering. As Christy states, “We don’t want to undersell or oversell a unit.” The guesswork is removed. Additionally, the online system is in place so people can schedule a unit and move-in without staff assistance. This has been especially helpful during the Covid crisis, eliminating the worry of person-to-person contact.
Climatec is open for tenant use from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, giving ample time to accommodate moving and storage needs. Tenants are each given a unique access code for entrance into the building, and over 30 security cameras are constantly monitored to view all movement taking place inside and outside the facility on a 24-hour, 7 days-a-week basis. A large elevator and wide doors make access in and out of the building and to units a convenient task, especially when aided using custom-made, heavy duty storage carts. Each storage unit comes with a free lock and keys, and the tenant can keep this lock when moving out. By providing this sturdy lock, it is ensured contents are kept safe and sound and not at risk due to the use of a flimsy, cheap lock not intended for this type of use.
