A legendary voice filled Old Town Theatre this weekend as country music icon Crystal Gayle took the stage in Huntsville.

Gayle became a household name in the 1970s, blending country music with a smooth, pop-influenced sound that helped her reach audiences far beyond the genre. Her signature hit, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” topped the country chart in 1977, crossed over to the pop charts and became the song most closely associated with her career. She would go on to earn numerous chart-topping hits and become the first female country artist to have an album certified platinum.

Country music also runs deep in Gayle’s family. Born Brenda Gail Webb, she is the younger sister of legendary singer and songwriter Loretta Lynn. Gayle began performing while still young and even joined her sister on the road before developing a musical style and career distinctly her own. Her debut single, “I’ve Cried the Blue Right Out of My Eyes,” was written by Lynn.

Decades later, Gayle’s unmistakable voice, timeless songs and signature style continue to connect with audiences. Her appearance at Old Town Theatre gave local music lovers the opportunity to experience a true country music legend in the intimate setting of downtown Huntsville.
